THE CHATEAU OF HRADEK U NECHANIC is located in Bohemia, 15 km from Hradec Kralove. It stands on a small hill called Lubensky vrch near the village of Hradek. The village bears its name by the medieval stronghold which used to stand here already at the end of the 14th century and belonged to Borek z Hradku. The stronghold was demolished in the 16th century.
The chateau was built in the period of romanticism, the epoch when the old historical architectural styles were revived. Architects were often inspired by the gothic style and imitated motives of medieval castle architecture. Therefore, it was intended to make an impression of a medieval castle.
The chateau was built in the Tudor Gothic Revival style, characteristic by fl at ends of roofs with outlines of buildings trimmed by battlements. Another signifi cant feature of the Gothic Revival style is the so-called Tudor arch used mainly in gate portals, as well as windows.
