At the beginning of the 1960s at Mogilevsk auto plant the first trial batch of the single-axle tow-truck MoAZ-546 was designed and assembled. Their main difference in appearance was an angular covering of the engine compartment and the single-seat cab. The tow-trucks were accompanied with the serial diesel engine of Yaroslavl Engine Plant YaMZ-238? (14,87 l, 215 hp).
In the national economy, these trucks served to tow the new 12-cubic scraper D-357P and the modernized dredging cart D-504A, and tacitly continued to perform almost all the military functions of the previous single-axle vehicles. The 546P truck had a curb weight of 10 tons and a length of 4585 mm. The maximum permissible weight of the road train increased to 35 tons, its control fuel consumption was 110 liters per 100 km.
