At the time, the Titanic was the largest passenger ship constructed with the most luxurious equipment. The technology of the ship had a standard which hadn’t been reached up to then. Along its whole length it had a double ship base and was divided into 16 watertight areas by separating walls. That is why it was considered to be unsinkable. The first-class passengers had extremely luxurious rooms, and also a Turkish bath, an indoor swimming-pool, a gymnastics room, reading and writing rooms, a smokers’ room, verandas and a palm garden, four electric lifts, restaurants and cafés. The second-class passengers had the pleasure of their own library. On the boat deck there were promenades for the first class and the officers - but not enough lifeboats.
